If you are an inveterate hiker it is possible for you to spend up to twenty days on the trails which meander from Sabie to Graskop; from Graskop to the dam in the Blyde River Canyon; from Pilgrims Rest to the Dam (or back to Pilgrims Rest); and which take you through many different climatic zones; from the highest point, 2115m to the lowest point at 630m through the last vestiges of incredibly species-rich montane grassland which once covered the entire region; or through indigenous riverine ad other forests and some pine plantations; and overpowering all of this, the Healing power of “getting back to nature:. The accommodation at the overnight huts – for the most part – consists of bunkbeds with mattresses; cold showers, flush or bush toilets; braai sites; pots; and lots of fresh air. THIS TRAIL TRAVERSES HALF OF THE BLYDE RIVER CANYON NATURE RESERVE,
AS WELL AS PRIVATELY OWNED LAND, FROM PARADISE CAMP (ON THE GOD’S
WINDOW LOOP ROAD) TO BOURKE’S LUCK POTHOLES. A REASONABLE DEGREE
OF FITNESS IS REQUIRED. GUIDED OR SELF-GUIDED.

DURATION OF THE TRAIL – 5 DAYS. TOTAL DISTANCE : 79KM. OVERNIGHT HUTS AVAILABLE AT CEYLON,MARITZBOS , HARTEBEESVLAKTE , PRESIDENT BURGURS , MAC-MAC AND GRASKOP. THE HIKER STARTS AT CEYLON PLANTATION AND FINISHES AT EITHER GRASKOP OR GOD’S WINDOW . HOWEVER , THE TRAIL CAN ALSO BE TACKLED OVER THE WEEKEND. TWO CIRCULAR ROUTES WITHIN THE MAIN TRAIL, MAKE SLEEPING OVER FOR ONLY ONE OR TWO NIGHTS POSSIBLE .

DURATION OF THE TRAIL – 5 DAYS. TOTAL DISTANCE : 69KM. THE START IS AT MAC-MAC. OVERNIGHT HUTS AVAILABLE AT PILGRIMS REST , MORGENZON , EXCELSIOR , SACRAMENTO CREEK AND BOURKE'S LUCK. THE HIKER FINISHES AT BOURKE'S LUCK .

take the trouble to experience these same splendours as a hiker on
any of the 2,3,4 or 5 day hiking trails in the area surely do get
the best out of the bargain.
